Pulses
Lentil (masur) is West Bengal's leading rabi pulse. Urvar's program uses a light basal dose at sowing and targeted zinc and boron sprays timed to flowering and pod development.

In BCKV trials, lentil sown in November significantly outyielded December-sown crops. A basal dose of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is applied at sowing, in rows 30 cm apart.

When pods dry and turn brown1

Lentil is harvested once pods dry down; grain is then dried to 12–13% moisture before storage.

Spot it, fix it
General symptoms that apply across crops. Confirm with a soil or leaf test before treating.2
Upper leaves show interveinal chlorosis, eventually whitening. Leaves may be small and distorted, in a rosette form.
Growing points develop abnormally; the tips become stunted and die, and flowers and fruits may abort.
Growth is slow and stunted, and older leaves turn purple, especially on the underside.

How do I convert a per-katha dose to bigha or acre?
Multiply by 20 for a West Bengal bigha (1 bigha = 20 katha), or by about 60.5 for an acre. Every dose on this page already shows all three.
