Maize
Winter maize responds strongly to a well-timed nitrogen schedule. Urvar's program supports early growth and corrects zinc deficiency across the season's top dressings.

Season schedule
What to apply, and when
Stage timing comes from agricultural-university research (cited). Doses are Urvar's own label doses, shown per katha with bigha and acre equivalents.
1 bigha = 20 katha (West Bengal) · 1 acre ≈ 60.5 katha
- 1
Mid-November1
Land preparation & sowing
In BCKV trials at Gayeshpur, winter maize was sown in mid-November at 60 × 25 cm spacing. Half the nitrogen and all of the phosphorus and potassium go in as a basal dose.

Enriched Vermicompost
During land preparation
17–25 kg per katha
340–500 kg per bigha · ≈ 1–1.5 t per acre
Label dose for Paddy (closest crop row)

PROM – Phosphate Rich Organic Manure
During final land preparation
1.5–2 kg per katha
30–40 kg per bigha · ≈ 91–121 kg per acre
Label dose for Paddy (closest crop row)
- 2
20 days after sowing1
First weeding
Manual weeding at 20 days after sowing keeps early growth clear of competition.
- 3
40 days after sowing1
Top dressing & earthing up
A quarter of the nitrogen is top-dressed at 40 days after sowing, along with a second weeding and earthing up (ridging soil onto the base of the plant).

Humic Acid Liquid
Mix in 15–20 litres water per Katha
30–60 ml per katha
0.6–1.2 L per bigha · ≈ 1.8–3.6 L per acre
Label dose: foliar spray

Zinc EDTA 12%
Mix in 15–20 litres water per Katha
3–7 g per katha
60–140 g per bigha · ≈ 182–424 g per acre
Label dose: foliar spray
- 4
70 days after sowing1
Second top dressing
The last quarter of the nitrogen is top-dressed at 70 days after sowing. In BCKV trials, 200:100:100 kg N:P₂O₅:K₂O per hectare gave the highest productivity.

PROM – Humic Based Flowering Booster
Apply 10–15 days before flowering (label timing for flowering crops)
1.5–2 kg per katha
30–40 kg per bigha · ≈ 91–121 kg per acre
Label dose for Paddy (closest crop row)

Boron EDTA
Mix in 15–20 litres water per Katha
2–4 g per katha
40–80 g per bigha · ≈ 121–242 g per acre
Label dose: foliar spray
Deficiency guide
Spot it, fix it
General symptoms that apply across crops. Confirm with a soil or leaf test before treating.2
Upper leaves show interveinal chlorosis, eventually whitening. Leaves may be small and distorted, in a rosette form.

Growth is slow and stunted, and older leaves turn purple, especially on the underside.

Maize FAQ
Common questions
How do I convert a per-katha dose to bigha or acre?
Multiply by 20 for a West Bengal bigha (1 bigha = 20 katha), or by about 60.5 for an acre. Every dose on this page already shows all three.
Which Urvar products does the Maize program use?
Land preparation & sowing: Enriched Vermicompost, PROM – Phosphate Rich Organic Manure. Top dressing & earthing up: Humic Acid Liquid, Zinc EDTA 12%. Second top dressing: PROM – Humic Based Flowering Booster, Boron EDTA.
